The opportunity to live in close contact with nature actually on the water but with all the modern communications links is what Christian Grande offers with his Floating Villas, a concept that goes beyond the purely residential.
The award-winning designer has dubbed this project Abifloat, a system of individual 6.5 metre x 3.25 metre floating modules that can be assembled singly or in clusters. They can be extended horizontally by combining several base modules, and have a load-bearing ability for two floors. The project spans everything from individual single-room studios to floating villages spread over several levels, all customised to meld with the surrounding land- and seascapes too. A sustainable, radically modular take on the boathouse idea.
