Mylius M62P, design and innovation

Mylius enters motoryachting and does not give up the philosophy that sets it apart, based on design and innovation.

“A lovely loft over the sea” is how Valentina Gandini, CEO of Mylius Yacht, describes the yard’s latest creation. The Mylius M62P is the first motor yacht to join the long series of sail yachts that have ensured the success of the yard, founded in 2003 and inspired by Luciano Gandini’s passion for sailing and the sea. The Mylius M62P concept began to take shape in late 2020. “We were considering potential projects, how to enter the motor yacht market, which offers even greater opportunities than the sail yacht market. We were thinking of a small series of yachts from 5o to 8 feet in length that in some way reflected our sail philosophy”. The commission to develop a concept was given to a friend and established designer in both sectors – Giovanni Ceccarelli. “It’s my first collaboration with Mylius”, says Ceccarelli, “and the brief involved a motor yacht that included elements of contemporary sail yacht design but was at the same time clearly recognisable. The result was the reverse bow and a sheerline that evoked this world”.

A refined, fluid interior design that enhances transparencies to the sea.

The influence of sail yacht design can also be seen in the superstructure, with a cupola recalling the coachhouse of many Mylius sail yachts, and the wooden elements in the superstructure sides. According to Ceccarelli, “The project’s other strong, distinctive element” is the aft cockpit window. The entrance is created using a single curved window that opens out to the main deck windows. “As soon as we presented the new Mylius we received ver positive feedback from the client”. Giovanni Ceccarelli soon took on the role of naval designer as well as designer. “We developed a new, dedicated hull using CF’D programmes. That’s what we do with all our projects, whether sail or motor yachts. The objective was a yacht with a shallow draught, stable in rough seas and with good performance using relatively small engines. I think we’ve achieved all that”.

The project entered the construction stage after two months’ work, bringing Mylius Yacht into the motor yacht world with a 62-metre model, the Mylius M62P. “We decided to start with an intermediate length that would enable us to target the 5o-foot and 8o-foot markets”, says Valentina Gandini. The Mylius M62P by Giovanni Ceccarelli also features the work of architect Aldo Parisotto of Parisotto+ Formenton. “Parisotto isn’t just one of our owners”, says Valentina Gandini. “He’d already worked for us. We asked him to ereate a very modern concept for the interiors, and this was further developed by Ugo Caragnano, our interior design architect”.

As Aldo Parisotto says, “The aim was to create an innovative yacht. The large volumes and all-round windows provide a close contact with the sea, so in the living area we chose low-profile furniture to retain the integrity of the view towards the exterior”, generating what Valentina Gandini describes as “T’he exciting, authentic sensation of an open space, of projection towards the sea”From the dining area and conversation area at the entrance to the kitchen and main deck the entire space features the combination of the light colours of the carpets, flooring and oak furniture and ceilings with the dark tones of the Tanganika wood.

Architect Aldo Parisotto chose to use oak wood to give light to the interior.

The leather panelling in the stairwell down to the lower deck, described by Parisotto as “a sculptural, circular volume”, takes up the colour of the Tanganika wood. The light wood theme continues in the midships owner’s cabin and the two twin cabins, where the natural light is enhanced by elements from the Arcipelago collection by Parisotto+ Formenton for Lighting Marine. This series of spacious, refined interiors completes the new M62P, a true loft over the sea that expresses the Mylius motor yacht philosophy and provides intriguing hints of the shape of larger models to come. Stay tuned.
