MCY 105 Skylounge: a new take on onboard living

Monte Carlo Yachts presents the pinnacle of the new enclosed flybridge concept, offering the most exacting owners a new take on onboard living.

February 2020 brought the presentation of the MCY 70 Skylounge, followed in September by unveiling of the MCY 76 Skylounge and then, lastly, in July 2021, the announcement of the MCY 105 Skylounge which, at 32m, will be the flagship of the Skylounge fleet. Even more significantly, it is the ultimate expression of the radical enclosed flybridge concept developed and realised entirely in Italy by Monte Carlo Yachts. “The MCY 105 Skylounge is a genuinely unique project that we had tucked away waiting for the opportunity to offer it to a client who then instantly fell in love with it,” explains Sergio Loiacono, sales and marketing director of Monte Carlo Yachts. The MCY 105 Skylounge was signed, as for the others, by Carlo Nuvolari and Dan Lenard: “We wanted to strike the perfect balance between hull and superstructure, meticulous detailing and proportions together with carefully designed light distribution in the interiors”.

The saloon on the main deck opens into the beach club aft. The saloon has floor-to-ceiling windows that guarantee both light and direct contact with the outside world.

All without losing the family feeling that links al the yard’s models. The Skylounge’s spacious, versatile interiors paired with expansive outdoor areas means it punches well above its weight. It is also exceptionally versatile because, as Loiacono explains: “The new model is built around the needs of each individual owner”. ‘. Carlo Nuvolari and Dan Lenard had a virtually infinite array of décor choices and materials to play with to ensure the owner of the first MCY 105 Skylounge got exactly what he wanted: “We also wanted to give the two saloons different uses and decors: the design centres around creating a formal saloon with a large dining area on the upper deck, that frees up the main deck which essentially becomes one expansive lounge and beach club area”.

The master suite is forward on the main deck with either three or four guest staterooms below. However, the 43 sqm of creatively enclosed space on the flybridge is at the heart of the yacht’s philosophy. Surrounded by huge windows and topped by a transparent ceiling, it treats occupants to 360-degree views and allows the yacht to be used in all climates. Plus the bridge is in there too. Most of all, it is exceptionally versatile. Personalisation is another signature. “The interior décor offers a huge choice of luxe materials designed to ensure interiors and exteriors coordinate,” the designers explain. “The exterior teak runs into the interior oak flooring and on the main deck, the teak used for the furnishings combined with outdoor fabrics really define the beach club area.

The various spaces are also feature alternating eucalyptus and teak accent wood enriched by natural leather surfaces and metal detailing”. Carlo Nuvolari and Dan Lenard conclude: “We changed the furnishings and materials in the various spaces according to their use. But at the same time, we created a sense of continuity by using the warm tones of the woods and the fabrics in marine colours”. This and the enclosed flybridge concept ensured the Skylounge garnered plenty of interest from the market. As Loiacono says: “We are confident that when the first example is delivered in 2022, it will surprise owners all over the world. Defining the MCY 105 Skylounge solely in terms of length doesn’t do it justice as it ushers in a totally new concept of onboard living”.
