Vripack: good goods come in small parcels
“Good goods come in small parcels” as the old adage goes. This maxim has often set the tone for the direction of Vripack’s designs. So much so, in fact, that the Dutch studio excels when it has to pour all of its ingenuity into compact craft. This was very much the case with Project Meteor, an 80 footer brimming with intriguing details that is both comfortable and capable of blisteringly fast speeds. It was designed for an owner that wanted a yacht that wasn’t too big so that he could helm it himself but that was still fast enough to get to his second home quickly at weekends. The boat also had to be suitable for family use and, because there would be kids aboard, also extremely safe and secure. Comfort was another big focus as it would be used as a day cruiser once the family had reached their second home.
Vripack quickly produced a design for a craft with a top speed of 41 knots and two retractable foils that automatically activate once it hits 20 knots. Safety is guaranteed by a protective wraparound superstructure plus a generous and entirely walkaround deck. A transparent top covers the lounge area on the main deck and can be slid back to turn it into an al fresco space at will. The transom opens out too to create a large beach platform that is great for getting into and out of the water easily, making swimming and water games even more fun and carefree. The layout in the interiors is ergonomic and very modern, following the flow of movement and eschewing sharp angles.
The décor itself is a mix of textures that alternates satin and gloss finishes with diamond-stitched leather in gunmetal black and blue velvet surfaces. The windows are edged in a white eggshell effect fabric. The interiors are beautifully detailed and finished throughout, of course. All materials are locally sourced and sustainable to add to the feel-good factor. Project Meteor has spacious relaxation areas and there are two double cabins below decks for guests. Each bed has been cleverly angled also to guarantee perfect views of the sea.
