Porto Carlo Riva: the rebirth
The Ligurian port finds new life after the 2018 storm, now one of the most cutting-edge marinas on the Mediterranean.
The Porto Carlo Riva project, coordinated by the Bizzi & Partners group, has brought Rapallo’s marina back to the epicenter of the Tigullio Gulf after the 2018 storm. In rebuilding not just breakwaters and structures on land and sea, the Porto has been renewed as a now state-of-the-art, safe and sustainable marina designed to meet future challenges. The renovation includes the jetties, shore facilities and the creation of commercial spaces and restaurants, with modern services such as onboard delivery.
The aim was to create one of the most advanced and well-integrated ports in the Mediterranean, capable of meeting the needs of yachting enthusiasts and locals. The architecture was designed by Susanna Scarabicchi’s Tectoo studio and construction by Savarese Costruzioni and Sales. Safety features, including a 7 m breakwater, were completed in 2022, offering protection well beyond regulatory standards. Bizzi & Partners has transformed the Rapallo harbour into a centre of excellence for the yachting industry, offering high-end services, a Clubhouse and prestigious retail, food and beverage spaces, a reference point for yachts and superyachts.
A few numbers: 113,535 mq of surface area under concession; approximately 70 million euros’ worth of reconstruction work; 1,600 tetrapods (20 tonnes each) and 200,000 tonnes of rocks used for the new seawall; 250 berths for yachts up to 60 m in length; approximately 200 employees working at full capacity; approximately 80% of the marina’s water needs met with water returned from the city water treatment plant. www.portocarloriva.it
