Cruising in History

A passionate ship owner recreates an historical italian yacht.

The Paolucci, a fast motor yacht composed entirely of wood, was originally built in 1970 by the historical Cantieri Picchiotti shipyard in Viareggio. The craft was commissioned by the Italian Navy to service as a military ship and as a high speed ambulance. After a succession of modifications, the boat was converted into the state yacht for the President of the Italian Republic. In more recent times, this boat, with its remarkably rich life and its elegant, unique lines, has deteriorated into a wreck, necessitating a complete renovation. The passion and dedication of the Milanese ship owner, Giordano Fabiani gave rise to an extensive restoration project beginning in 2006, intended to  make the Paolucci an innovative, high performance craft once again. The 30-metre long planing hull offers enviable space both on deck and inside the craft. After the two year restoration, and thanks to a large crew  proud to work on the new Paolucci, the ship was back in superb shape. The interior has been rebuilt, and all the ship’s systems, including the propulsion and steering systems, have been replaced.
