Eberhard & Co. is the official timekeeper of the Genoa Boat Show, where it unveiled the Scafograf 200 MCMLIX Bronze Edition, a special edition of the Scafograf 200 MCMLIX collection, an evolution of the historic diver’s watch range that reinterprets its heritage in a contemporary style with a compact case measuring 39 mm in diameter. Its connection with the sea goes back a long way, and its watches started as professional instruments. Then they became icons. Today, they are both. Modern dive watches are enjoying a remarkable renaissance, combining the appeal of purpose-built tool watches with a timeless aesthetic that transcends trends.

Few brands can tell this story as convincingly as Eberhard & Co., which revisits one of its most enduring collections with the new Scafograf 200 MCMLIX. A watch that pays tribute to nearly seven decades of history while proving that authenticity never goes out of style. The Scafograf first appeared in 1959, when dive watches were conceived as genuine working instruments.

Reliability came before appearance and every component served a precise purpose. Over the decades, however, the collection has successfully evolved alongside sports watchmaking, adapting to changing tastes and technologies without ever losing its original identity. That balance between heritage and innovation is precisely what defines the latest chapter in its story. The new Scafograf 200 MCMLIX embraces the compact proportions that made the early models so distinctive, returning to a versatile 39 mm case.

The dial preserves some of the collection’s signature features, including the alternating triangular and round hour markers and the unmistakable three-point hour hand. Originally designed to maximise underwater legibility, these details have become visual hallmarks of the Scafograf line. Beneath its vintage-inspired appearance lies a thoroughly modern diving watch.

An automatic helium escape valve, a unidirectional ceramic bezel, a screw-down crown and caseback, together with a domed anti-reflective sapphire crystal, confirm that the Scafograf remains faithful to its technical vocation. Completing the package is a new Milanese stainless-steel bracelet, a refined solution that recalls the Maison’s historical heritage while adding a sophisticated touch without compromising its sporting character. Yet limiting the Scafograf to its technical specifications would mean overlooking the broader story behind it.

The sea has always been part of Eberhard & Co.’s identity. Since the late 1950s, the Maison has explored the world of underwater watchmaking through increasingly advanced dive watches, later expanding the collection with models such as the Chrono Marine, inspired by a chronograph originally created for the Italian Royal Navy in the 1930s, and the Scafodat, developed to provide an even more intuitive reading of diving times.

That maritime vocation naturally extended into the world of competitive sailing. In 1983, Eberhard & Co. became the Official Timekeeper of Azzurra, the first Italian challenger to compete in the America’s Cup. It was a landmark moment not only for the brand but also for Italian sailing, introducing millions of people to a competition that had previously been followed mainly by enthusiasts.

The values that define an America’s Cup campaign—precision, reliability and performance under pressure—perfectly reflected the philosophy that has always guided the Maison. The link with the sea continues to this day. For the past five consecutive years, Eberhard & Co. has served as Official Timekeeper of the Genoa International Boat Show, reaffirming its commitment to one of Europe’s leading nautical events.
More than a partnership, it represents the continuation of a journey that began almost seventy years ago with the Scafograf. The new Scafograf 200 MCMLIX is therefore more than the latest evolution of a historic dive watch; it is the contemporary expression of a maritime heritage that continues to define the identity of Eberhard & Co.
