Foster + Partners unveils the Outlier I concept

Designed by Foster + Partners, the Outlier I yacht concept redefines the very boundaries of yacht design, naval engineering and the guest experience. It offers a new paradigm that combines Lateral’s expertise in innovative naval engineering with Foster + Partners’ integrated approach to design.

Marilu Sicoli, Senior Partner at Foster + Partners, said: “Outlier I is an 88-metre megayacht with features typically found on a gigayacht of over 100 metres. In particular, it offers around 40% more deck space than standard yachts in its category, making it a benchmark in its class”.

Adam Newburn, Senior Partner at Foster + Partners, added: “The design concept also allows for greater interior flexibility, enabling double- or triple-height spaces and extremely generous, naturally lit living areas. We are pushing the boundaries of naval design, reinventing guest spaces and their surroundings to offer a completely new way of living on the water.”

At 2,000 GT, it represents a “balance point” between mega and giga yachts: a size that still allows for a degree of ease of mooring whilst leaving ample space for key features such as a swimming pool, helipad and a deck reserved for the owner. Lateral’s latest technical platform involves moving the engine room forward to the bow: a bold departure from the traditional layouts of yachts of this size.

This move allows for a radical reinvention of the vessel’s interior architecture in terms of design. It frees up valuable space in the central and aft sections of the yacht, traditionally occupied by machinery, and enables completely new spatial arrangements throughout the rest of the yacht, bringing guests closer to the water.

This new concept enables improved spatial connectivity – both vertically and horizontally – enhancing interactions between guests and crew whilst reimagining their accommodation for greater comfort and privacy. It unlocks the potential for spacious and expansive interior spaces, as well as unobstructed external decks towards the stern, ideal as relaxation or entertainment areas. The yacht also features a tank deck that spans the entire length of the vessel and a larger garage to accommodate a wider range of tenders.

Building on Foster + Partners’ tradition in yacht design, the concept also allows for creative customisation tailored to the owner’s needs, whether for private moments and cruises or for hosting requirements. Outlier I’s flexible platform supports a wide range of uses, from luxury cruising to exploring the most remote destinations.
