Harken Enters the Megayachts world

From the America’s Cup to Dinghies, from One Designs to Racers, from Cruisers to Megasailers. And now, Megayachts, not just sailing ones. Harken, the company founded over 50 years ago by brothers Peter and Olaf Harken, is further expanding its offerings. It did so at METS Trade 2025, the largest accessories show held November 18-20 in Amsterdam. There, Harken presented its new series of products dedicated to the world of Megayachts, identified by the acronym CLR: Compact Light Retractable. Of course, there was no shortage of new products for every type of sailing vessel, but Harken’s entry into the world of Megayachts was one of the highlights of the Dutch show.

Power Below Deck

First first news from Harken at the Mets are the Mooring Reel Winch, a captive winch below-deck for mooring operations. It can handle loads up to 50 tons and combines compact size, reliability, and advanced engineering. The exclusive, patented roller feeder ensures smooth and precise line reeling, and its modular design allows for quick replacement of line as mooring needs change. Maintenance is simplified, and it is available with hydraulic or electric power.

Flush on the Deck

The CLR Fairlead, a retractable fairlead for integrated mooring, is one of the elements of the new Compact Light Retractable mooring system. Its distinctive feature is its retractability: when not in use, the fairlead remains lowered flush with the deck, while during mooring operations it guides the lines to facilitate their movement. Constructed entirely of AISI 316 stainless steel, its upper section can be customized with teak, allowing it to be integrated into the yacht’s deck.

Disappearing power

The CLR Mooring Winch is a retractable motorized winch, installed flush with the deck, designed for large yachts. Thanks to its patented geometry, it offers an exceptional power-to-size ratio. Fully retractable, the CLR Mooring Winch takes up less space on and below deck than traditional systems, while maintaining a lightweight design and high mechanical performance.

The Phantom Mooring Bollard

The compact and lightweight retractable CLR Bollard disappears completely flush with the deck when not in use, but can be raised and operated manually using a handle if necessary. It is made entirely of AISI 316 stainless steel, and the upper section can be customized with teak inserts. Available in three models – 10, 20, and 30 tonnes of holding load – the CLR Bollard, together with the CLR Fairlead and the CLR Mooring Winch, forms an integrated, fully retractable mooring system for Megayachts.

News not just for Megayachts

At METS Trade 2025, Harken also presented a series of new products dedicated to more traditional sailing. These include the new Vang for the world’s most popular dinghy: the ILCA (formerly Laser). Other new additions include the fixed aluminum alloy Padeye and the Grip&Go winch handle. Already available in the Carbo version, the Grip&Go is now also available in aluminum. A new product that, along with the Padeye, made its world debut at the 65th Genoa International Boat Show. Rounding out the new products at the Amsterdam Show were the Radial and Performa winches, the Air Winches, and the extensive range of blocks for all onboard applications.
