From simple bricks to true works of art: LEGO is not just a game, but a symbol of creativity, ingenuity and passion that fascinates generations of builders, from toddlers to adults. Each Lego set represents much more than a pastime: it is a challenge, a journey and a story to be told. Which also looks to the sea. There are many proposals that the brand has in its catalogue, each of which represents a valid idea for a different and unique gift.
Titanic
More than 9,000 pieces, 9,090 to be exact, which once assembled create a faithful representation of the famous liner.
The Lego Titanic measures 135 cm in length by 44 cm in height and is a detailed reconstruction of the ship reproduced on a scale of 1:200. Nothing was left to chance and the Danish brand carefully studied the original Titanic plans to design this set.
‘When it was inaugurated, the Titanic represented the pinnacle of nautical engineering: the largest moving vehicle ever created.
It was an incredible journey to recreate this iconic ship in Lego bricks, using the plans created more than a century ago,’ said Mike Psiaki, Master Design at Lego Group. From the engine room to the first class rooms to the cabins on board the Titanic Lego lacks nothing.
Emirates Team New Zealand
Relive the fascination of the 37th America’s Cup by climbing, brick by brick, aboard Tahori. Lego fans as well as sailing enthusiasts will have a lot of fun building the New Zealand Ac75, fresh from winning the oldest sporting trophy in the waters of Barcelona.
The set consists of 962 pieces which, once assembled, provide a faithful reproduction of the flying hull, complete with operable foils.
Endurance
This is one of the latest arrivals in the Lego range inspired by the sea. The Endurance model is a true miniature masterpiece. The ship, because that is what it is, is a faithful reproduction of the sailing ship used by Shackleton on that epic voyage made by the explorer in the early years of the last century.
A feat, albeit unfinished, that has remained in history. ‘The Endurance was a very special ship,’ says Lego designer Hans Burkhard Schlömer. ‘Designed as an exploration vessel for cold-weather environments, it was a mix between a luxury yacht and an icebreaker.
It even had a shower! Made by Norwegian master craftsmen, it was built to last: one of the most durable wooden ships ever built.’ The new set consists of 3,011 pieces and once assembled the sailing ship measures a total length of 80 cm.
‘To determine the size and scale of the model, we looked for the most important details and how small they could be built, such as the lifeboats, which are two different sizes,’ explains Hans. ‘From there I calculated all the other measurements,’ concludes Burkhard Schlömer.
Jaws
Raise your hand if you haven’t seen it at least once in your life. This film, which made Steven Spielberg director, has become such a cult film that it has gone beyond the confines of the small and big screen, inspiring Lego to create a set that captures one of its most famous scenes: the one in which the shark bites into the stern of the boat on which the protagonists of the famous film, police chief Martin Brody,
Matt Hooper and Sam Quint, are on board. The complete set, which also includes the fishing boat featured in the film Jaws, measures over 35 cm high, 59 cm long and 20 cm wide and consists of 1,497 pieces. The attention to detail culminates in a removable roof that allows the detailed interior cabin, much loved by fans of the film, to be explored.
On deck, there are movable elements such as an adjustable boom and rigging, as well as iconic shark hunting accessories such as harpoons and the famous yellow barrels. A true collector’s item for ‘Jaws’ lovers!
