The new Petra, a 50‑metre explorer yacht developed by Turkish shipyard RMK Yachts together with the Milan‑based studio Hot Lab, was conceived with a clear ambition: to combine the solidity of a true ocean‑going exploration vessel with a contemporary, sculpted and highly recognisable aesthetic language. Its lines stem from an unusual yet powerful inspiration: the profile of an anvil, an object that guided the designers toward strong, precise and perfectly balanced forms. From this initial gesture comes the yacht’s distinctive stern geometry, the now‑signature “C‑line” that defines the project’s visual identity.
A genuine explorer built to go far
Petra is designed as a true ocean explorer, featuring a steel hull and aluminium superstructure — a combination that prioritises robustness, stability and reliability during long and demanding passages. With an autonomy of around 4,000 nautical miles and a top speed of 16 knots, it sits firmly among yachts capable of crossing oceans without stops, maintaining a displacement profile fully aligned with its mission. The technical platform has been engineered to ensure safety, comfort and operational continuity even in harsh conditions, with generous storage for tenders, expedition equipment and water toys.
Three souls for three ways of experiencing the sea
One of Petra’s most innovative traits is its nature as a modular platform, developed in three distinct versions — Aura, Core and Infinite — each conceived for a different ownership style. These are not simple aesthetic variations but true interpretations of life on board.
Aura is the warmest and most convivial version, oriented toward social life and everyday comfort. It offers an additional guest cabin on the main deck and an entertainment area on the lower deck, creating a softer, more welcoming atmosphere ideal for owners who value a domestic and shared dimension.
Core represents the essence of the concept: a balance between explorer functionality and Italian formal purity. Here, intimacy and private spaces take centre stage, with a layout designed for family life, including a dedicated owner’s balcony and a spatial organisation that favours visual continuity and practicality.
Infinite is the most extreme and adventurous interpretation. Equipped with Ice Class, a helideck and optional hybrid propulsion, it is designed to reach polar regions, remote islands and transoceanic routes. Increased loading capacity, reinforced cranes and expanded technical areas make it the ideal choice for those seeking a truly uncompromising exploration vessel.
A design that blends strength and refinement
Hot Lab’s work stands out for an architectural approach that combines strong horizontal lines, well‑proportioned volumes and large full‑height glass surfaces. The goal is to create a continuous dialogue between interior and exterior, with fluid transitions and a spatial perception that remains open and bright. The interiors follow the philosophy of “quiet luxury”, using natural materials — woods, fine stones, technical surfaces, leathers and textured fabrics — chosen to last over time and convey warmth and authenticity.
