In memory and in the wake of the Aga Khan, founder and president of the Club, who passed away on February 4th. This is how the presentation of the 2025 Calendar of the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda took place in Milan, which opened with a greeting from Commodore Andrea Recordati, owner, always with the YCCS pennant, of the Wally 80′ Indio, then of the Wally 101′ Indio Beta and from 2022 of the Wally 93′ Bullitt, with which he won the 44th edition of the Rolex Middle Sea Race.
The tribute to H.H. the Aga Khan
“In addition to presenting the 2025 sporting season, which promises to be of the highest calibre, we take this opportunity to remember with deep admiration and respect our Founder and President, H.H. the Aga Khan. His vision established the YCCS as an organisation of excellence and international prominence, and we will continue to uphold the principles promoted by His Highness, honouring his memory”. The words of Andrea Recordati who introduced a video tribute dedicated to the Aga Khan in which the black and white images and his story of how in 1962 he discovered the north-east coast of Sardinia kicked off the historic moments of the YCCS from the first Italian challenge to the America’s Cup with Azzurra to the adventure of Destriero.
Work is underway for the return of the Sardinia Cup
The YCCS Sports Calendar was then illustrated by the general secretary and Sports director, Edoardo Recchi who, thanking the institutional partners Rolex, Range Rover and Allianz and the technical partners Slam, Garmin Marine, Technogym and North Sails, then illustrated the various events with the anticipation of the possible return of the Sardina Cup in the face of the reborn Admiral’s Cup.
The three champions of Young Azzurra
At the end, the athletes of the Young Azzurra program, Cesare Barabino, of the ILCA 7 Class, Federico Pilloni, iQFOiL Youth World Champion and Maddalena Spanu, WingFoil Racing World Vice Champion as well as the current European and World Champion of Marathon WingFoil Racing, drew up their respective competitive calendars for 2025.
