Superyachts, the market trend: sales of nearly one billion in the first quarter 2026

The global superyacht market remains vibrant but selective. Indeed, at this stage, liquidity continues to be there only for assets positioned correctly in terms of price and quality of documentation. This is what emerges from the new 2026 Sales Market Overview covering the first quarter published by Ocean Independence, a brokerage house based in Küsnacht, Switzerland, that photographs a sector less euphoric in volume but still solid at the high end.

In the first three months of 2026, there were 80 sales of superyachts over 30 meters, with a total proxy value of 971.4 million euros calculated on the basis of the latest asking prices. The number of transactions is down from the fourth quarter of 2025, but the median price of the latest listing rose from 7.7 to 9.9 million., a sign that qualified buyers continue to look com interest at premium assets despite macroeconomic uncertainty.

Superyacht market: the importance of price

Ocean Independence describes the market as “functioning but ruthless,” because deals still close, but only when the vessel comes to market with a realistic price and credible commercial representation. “The market is not slowing down in the traditional sense – explained Peter Hürzeler, CEO of Ocean Independence -. What we are seeing is a more sophisticated buying environment .. Shipowners can still get solid results, but today’s buyers expect clarity, credibility, and realistic pricing from the outset“.

One of the central elements emerging from the report concerns the preparation of the sale, which has now become a decisive factor in protecting asset value and reducing trading time. More than 70 percent of transactions in the first quarter involved at least one price reduction, while the median time in the market reached 392 days.

According to Ocean Independence, yachts sold within the first six months of listing tend to close more quickly and with little or no price revisions. In contrast, vessels that remained exposed for more than two years experienced median reductions of more than 30 percent, showing how difficult it is to regain negotiating strength once an asset is perceived by the market as overexposed.

The first launch period is crucial – stressed Toby Maclaurin, Chief Commercial Officer of Ocean Independence -. A yacht that enters the market with the correct price and fully prepared creates momentum and confidence in buyers. Once a yacht becomes overexposed, it can be extremely difficult to regain negotiating strength “.

Superyacht market: the most liquid segment

The most liquid segment remains the one between 30 and 40 meters, which accounted for more than half of total transactions in the first quarter. Units over 55 meters, on the other hand, generated more than 40 percent of the total market value, confirming the resilience of the ultra-premium segment and the ability of large yachts to attract capital even in a more cautious environment.

The buyers’ behavior, particularly in the 40- to 55-meter segment, appears increasingly analytical and less driven by the emotional component alone. Transactions often involve family offices, legal advisors, technical managers, and surveyors, with more structured decision making than in the past and an increasing focus on maintenance, class, VAT status, and future operating costs.

Age and condition remain crucial variables in negotiations, especially for older boats. Yachts between 21 and 30 years old experienced median price reductions of more than 30 percent, reflecting buyers’ increased caution in the face of possible technical exposures, necessary refits and long-term ownership costs.

Superyacht market: the specimens for sale

The picture is also reflected in the portfolio of yachts offered by Ocean Independence, which shows the variety of the market among recent units, refitted models and projects under construction. Examples include. ELA, 50-meter Heesen motor yacht built in 2021, available at $38.5 million and presented as a recent high-efficiency asset with six cabins, 14 guests, and a profile designed to combine comfort, performance, and operating range.

Also in the 50-meter range, IRYNA II on the other hand, represents an example of an ultra-recent yacht built by Benetti in 2022, proposed at 29.5 million euros. The vessel, the first hull in the B.Now 50 series, focuses on outdoor spaces, sauna, stabilizers and a 10-guest configuration in five suites.

In the range around 40 meters, here is LADY LUCY: a Heesen of 2001, available at 8.75 million with VAT paid. The card values the presence of Zero Speed outriggers, elevator, master on the main deck, and a history of work that supports its placement.

Another example is. ENDLESS SUMMER, Westport from 40 meters of 2001 proposed at 6.6 million euros after a price reduction. The boat is presented as a charter yacht with six cabins, interior refit 2022-23 and new exterior paint completed in 2026.

The portfolio also includes. AGICA, 40-meter sailing project partially completed and offered at 15 million euros. In this case, the value is also linked to the possibility for a new owner to intervene on the final configuration, an option that intercepts more customized demand but requires even more careful evaluation of time, cost, and project completion.

For the remainder of 2026, Ocean Independence forecasts a still active market, supported by international demand for luxury experiences at sea, but with an increasing emphasis on realistic pricing and a fiduciary bond between seller, broker, and buyer.

The market is evolving into a more intelligent and professional environment – concluded Hürzeler. Buyers are more informed than ever before, and shipowners who adapt to this reality will continue to achieve positive results“.
