Tag Heuer: Aquaracer

The nine letters of the name identify a successful collection and reflect the enduring philosophy of the TAG Heuer brand. Aquaracer is where the worlds of the sea and sport meet, and here TAG Heuer has left an indelible mark.

The Aquaracer

The House, which this year celebrated its 160th anniversary, has inspired epic interludes in timekeeping history, especially in sport, which has enabled it to showcase its technical and engineering expertise through a succession of increasingly accurate, reliable instruments. Winning a car or yacht race has always been a question of seconds. It’s a story that in the motor racing world saw the launch of now-iconic collections like Carrera, Monaco and Autavia. And now Aquaracer.

Presented for the first time in 2004, this family of watches embodies TAG Heuer’s impressive yachting and maritime heritage. In the 1930s, 40s and 50s, Jack Heuer created a series of chronometers designed for yacht racing, then the late 1970s saw the appearance of a timepiece developed to meet the specific requirements of the Intrepid team in their 1967 America’s Cup campaign.

Since then the sea has continued to be a valuable source of inspiration for TAG Heuer – take, for example, the new features enhancing the Aquaracer collection. These include the Tortoise Shell Effect Special Edition – while its shape retains the classic design features of the Aquaracer family, it also introduces some notable stylistic elements, starting with the tortoiseshell effect on the bezel. It is created by using a special resin technique, and gives the watch a further touch of elegance, enhanced by the blue colour. Blue is also used with a sunburst effect on the dial.

The watch is also available in a version with a brown bezel and black dial. The 43mm steel case houses the famous Calibre 5, an automatic movement powering the hours, minutes and date functions. Reading the dial in low-light conditions is also facilitated by the white Super-LumiNova® coating on indicators and hands. Water resistant to 300 metres, the Aquaracer Tortoise Shell Effect Special Edition sports a rubber alligator effect strap.
