Baume & Mercier: the Riviera Maréographe

A succulent hors d’oeuvre for the new collections to be presented at the beginning of April in Geneva, on the occasion of Watches & Wonders, the Riviera Maréographe expands the offer of the famous watch family, which, just last year, turned the 50-year mark. An important milestone, but also a starting point for continuing a journey that has its main source of inspiration in the atmospheres of the French Riviera. And the new creation is no less.

The strong link with the sea

On the contrary, it reinforces a philosophy in which the sea, in this specific case, becomes a central element, conquering the scene. The name Maréographe itself underlines this. A characteristic element of the new reference is the tide indicator. Positioned at 6 o’clock on the dial, where the small seconds usually find their place, this complication has been designed precisely to keep the low and high tide cycle under control.

Baume & Mercier Riviera Maréographe, limited edition

Proposed in a limited edition of just 500 pieces, the new reference is distinguished by its characteristic 43mm case with a dodecagonal shape, a distinctive feature of the entire Riviera collection. The material chosen is steel with polished and satin-brushed finishes, the same material also used for the bezel fixed by four micro-sandblasted ADLC-steel screws and embellished with sunray finishes.

For the caseback, the sapphire crystal solution rewards the desire to reveal to view the Baumatic manufacture calibre BM14-1975AC3. An expression of the technical prowess achieved by the Maison, it is a self-winding mechanical movement equipped with a 120-hour power reserve.

Refined aesthetics

Capabilities that, in the case of Baume & Mercier, find another important key in terms of aesthetics, in the perlage decoration on the bridges, the sandblasted plate finished with colimaçon motifs, and the oscillating weight pierced with Côtes de Genève motifs with colimaçon finish and exclusive Baume & Mercier engraving. Elegance and attention to detail are also found on the dial.

Here, the satin-brushed soleil finish provides shades of blue reminiscent of those generated by the play of light on the surface of the sea. The reading of information is punctuated by skeleton hour and minute hands while the seconds hand features the Phi logo on the counterweight. An emblem of the Maison, the same logo in relief and with a black line, is featured as a decoration on the screw-down octagonal crown.

A pusher at 4 o’clock allows the tide disc, micro-sandblasted with colimaçon motifs, to be adjusted. Making the indications on the dial easy to read even in low-light conditions is the presence of blue-emitting white Superluminova with which the hour-markers and hands are coated.
