The Sanlorenzo SL102Asymmetric included in the ADI Design Index 2019

The SL102 Asymmetric yacht by Sanlorenzo has been included in the ADI Design Index 2019, the annual volume of the Association for Industrial Design (ADI) that brings together the best Italian design in production, selected by theADI Permanent Design Observatory.

For the third consecutive year, Sanlorenzo has been chosen by the commission composed of over 100 members, including experts, designers, critics, historians and specialized journalists, which each year selects the creations that stand out for originality and functional-typological innovation, production processes, materials and form.

The published projects become candidates for the next edition of the Compasso d’Oro ADI, the prestigious awards that for over 60 years have indicated the best designers and finest companies of Italian design to the public and sector professionals.

The items chosen for 2019 join those of the ADI Design Index 2018, in which Sanlorenzo was included with the installation “Il mare a Milano” set up at the Milan Triennale during the FuoriSalone 2017, and the interior design projects of Piero Lissoni for the SX88 crossover yacht, and of Citterio Viel for the 460Exp superyacht.

Il Mare a Milano

SL102 Asymmetric, presented by Sanlorenzo last year at the Cannes Yachting Festival 2018,is the world’s first asymmetrical motoryacht, a daring, very advanced project. The stimulus to make an asymmetrical yacht came from a very precise design outlook that combines the DNA of the company with an intrinsic capacity to redesign the internal spaces of a boat.

The concept has evolved through various contributions, minds and creativity combined: starting with the original idea of Chris Bangle, one of the best renown and most respected car designers in the world who in over 15 years of collaboration with BMW has revolutionized the history of the brand, extending to the technicians and interior designers inside the company, and then to the studio Zuccon International Project.

With the goal of obtaining better use of internal spaces and better communication with the outside, the SL102 Asymmetric revises the traditional layout of a yacht, placing a single starboard gangway while eliminating the one on the port side, which is placed on the roof of the structure. This novel asymmetrical arrangement makes it possible to recoup about 10 square meters of space for the interiors.

The result of constant research on products with a focus on the interaction between craftsmanship and high technology, the SL102 Asymmetric once again demonstrates the remarkable ability of Sanlorenzo to propose and shape unprecedented solutions that always reinterpret the concept of on-board space to achieve greater livability.
