La Grangette the first indoor vegetable garden for lovers of taste

Dedicated to lovers of taste, technology and aesthetics, La Grangette is an exclusive indoor vegetable garden (also perfect for installation on megayachts) that brings an innovative hydroponic farming experience with artificial intelligence into the home or boat: a new and interactive way to discover the pleasure of growing fresh produce directly in your own kitchen.

Conceived and produced by the Avignon-based French family company of the same name and designed by Italian Pininfarina, La Grangette combines innovative design and the latest technology to allow 64 plants to be grown simultaneously, choosing from 43 varieties of “salads”, “herbs” and “healthy”.

“La Grangette is inspired by my childhood home and the vegetable garden where my grandfather lovingly grew all kinds of vegetables in the countryside of the South of France. We wanted to propose the same kind of experience, adapting it to the contemporary urban lifestyle: people today have less time and space but want to consume fresh and healthy products. So we came up with the idea of an indoor vegetable garden which, thanks to hydroponic growing techniques and the support of state-of-the-art technology, offers genuine, nutrient-rich products, grown to perfection and eaten when they are perfectly ripe,” says Thibaut Pradier, creator of La Grangette.

La Grangette’s unique smart technology makes it possible to grow food plants without waste, recreating the optimal conditions for each one to reach full maturity. La Grangette uses 90% less water than traditional agriculture, without the use of pesticides and herbicides, and ensures lower CO2 emissions during the plants’ life cycle.

“Our collaboration with La Grangette has been absolutely exceptional, providing Pininfarina with the opportunity to demonstrate its unique ability to help create and bring to market innovative product and service experiences. It represents the expression of our core beliefs and values: from our approach to technology to permeating the very fabric of the products we design, combining the tangible and intangible into a unique whole, focusing not only on the beauty of the object but also on the pleasure of interacting with it, or designing and developing products in more sustainable ways and promoting healthier lifestyles,” says Xavier Blanc Baudriller, Head of Experience and Product Design at Pininfarina.

The experience designed by Pininfarina goes beyond the pure beauty of the product, adding enjoyable interactions. Based on artificial intelligence and automatic growth monitoring, La Grangette guides users discreetly and intuitively through the various stages of plant growth, from indicating the most favourable planting location for healthy growth to providing information on the perfect time to harvest or helping the user discover new plants, scents and flavours.

This is done through a mobile app, an intrinsic part of the La Grangette experience, designed to enrich the sensory experience of the product and the plants growing within it with content and functionality to help users plan and enjoy a conscious and healthy diet.
