After the recently announced Ferretti Yachts 780, the second new yacht of 2017 – the Ferretti Yachts 920 – is here. As always, it has been created from the collaboration between the Ferretti Group’s Product Strategy Committee and Engineering Department, along with Studio Zuccon International Project. Construction is already under way at the Ferretti Yachts Cattolica (Rimini) shipyard in preparation for the official launch in September.
The Ferretti Yachts 920 (28.49m LOA) has a totally new hull measuring 23.98m, which means it can be registered as a recreational craft. The grandeur of this new maxi flybridge makes an immediate impression.
Its dynamic, irrepressible profile develops the stylistic design features that have led to the international success of recently launched models and have completely modernised the fleet. The first major new feature involves raising the height of the bow. As well as giving the yacht an imposing presence on the water, this has allowed the addition of a wide-body master suite on the main deck. The detailing on the bulwarks also helps emphasise the yacht’s “aggressive” character, whih continues beyond the walkways and cuts into the design of the windows in the master cabin.
The outdoor areas have an impressive amount of relaxation spaces and luxurious furnishings.
The forward space in the bow, in particular, is the largest ever for a Ferretti Yachts vessel of this size. The sun pad on the deckhouse leads into a dinette fitted with two forward-facing sofas, divided by a passageway, and a pair of sofas with adjustable backrests. This creates a large lounge, completed with coffee tables that can be protected and shaded by curtains upon request.
The stern area features a Submersible Hatch, the famous system used to move the garage door and swimming platform, offering guests all the comfort of a spacious beach club and letting the crew handle the tender with ease. Ferretti Yachts 920 can accommodate a tender measuring up to 4m in length.
The cockpit has two possible layouts based on the arrangement of the aft sofa: either a separate sofa, or a chaise longue that can be used as a sun pad or a seat for the outdoor dining table.
The flybridge is a panoramic deck with freestanding furniture, especially amidships and in the stern.
The forward part of the hard top overlooking the lounge area and the outdoor helm station comes with various options: the traditional grey fibreglass covering can be replaced with a blacked-out window, a sun canopy, or variable louvres that shade the area letting an excellent amount of light and air through.
The interiors rival the stunning versions in higher category models. The main deck divides up the space, bathing it in natural light. The on-board architecture and décor develop the fascinating leitmotif already enjoyed on the successful Ferretti Yachts 850, while also benefiting from more available space and the use of luxurious materials.
It has a warm, welcoming atmosphere with the rooms conveying an original elegance.
Structural panelling typical of residential architecture, panoramic windows and veneer finishes with textures that accentuate the depth of the spaces are combined with the expert use of leathers, turning the Ferretti Yachts 920 into a floating Penthouse. The captivating ceiling back-lighting system completes the lounge’s contemporary appeal.
The wide-body master suite perfectly conveys this metropolitan style, in keeping with the latest furnishing trends. The bed is supported by a dark recessed base, as if it were “floating”, and is surrounded by low furniture along the bulwarks, leaving space for the large windows.
There is a vanity desk on the starboard side, while the full-beam bathroom is located forward on a slightly lower level. A walk-in closet completes the suite.
The central area of the deck is designed to control the circulation flows on board. There is a lobby to the starboard side with a storage area, day toilet and stairs down to the lower deck. There is a large galley on the port side which leads up to the helm station, or to the first technical and system monitoring area if you continue forward, after which there are stairs leading down to the crew quarters.
The main area of the lower deck is available in two layouts: the version on the first unit includes 3 large en suite cabins, all fitted with a separate wardrobe area.
This exclusive layout offers guests a full-beam double suite amidships worthy of a master cabin, and a second VIP suite on the port side with the exact same set-up. A comfortable third cabin with single beds completes the sleeping area. The 4-cabin layout is organised into two en suite double cabins on the port side and two doubles with single beds on the starboard side.
Great attention is paid to the crew: in addition to the large dinette with laundry area, the captain can enjoy a private en-suite cabin, while the crew can relax in two double cabins with a bathroom fitted with a separate shower. A second layout is also available for this area with a captain’s cabin at the foredeck.
The pilothouse is an exclusively technical area with a “futuristic” design. Here, the captain can manage the entire yacht thanks to a large control station with multiple touchscreen display that fully integrates the on-board monitoring system and navigation instruments, along with a next-gen steering system.
The Ferretti Yachts 920 is available with three different types of MTU engine. The standard model is powered by twin 12V 2000 M96L 1948 Mhp engines, which can be upgraded to twin 16V engines, respectively 2000 M86 generating 2217 Mhp and 2000 M96 with 2435 Mhp. Their respective performances are 23, 24 and 26 knots cruising speed and 26.5, 28 and 30 knots maximum speed, depending on the chosen engine configuration (preliminary data).
The boatyard can install zero-speed fins or Seakeeper stabilisers on board the Ferretti Yachts 920, upon request.
According to Bernardo Zuccon, “The new Ferretti Yachts 920 has a great relevance mainly because of two reasons: on the one hand, this is one of the biggest maxi yachts produced by the shipyard, on the other hand, regarding the typological aspect of the yacht, Ferretti Yachts 920 represents, above all, a new design content in the Ferretti Yachts’ range, since we’re seeing the concept of wide body introduced in the line for the first time. Therefore, the research conducted on this specific yacht plays a very significant role for Ferretti Yachts and we wish that the introduction of Ferretti Yachts 920 will guarantee an important and solid future scenario for the shipyard’s range.
In regard to the style, Ferretti Yachts 920 is certainly in line with the experience of the previous models Ferretti Yachts 850 and Ferretti Yachts 780. Nevertheless, the typological innovation required the introduction of new stylistic elements that define and differentiate this boat from her smaller sisters, testifying the passage to a superior length’s category and, at the same time, to a more functionally-binding kind of yacht: the style is still in line with the range, but it is also necessarily bound to a new typology of living space.
Another key point of Ferretti Yachts 920 is her flexibility regarding the functional aspects of the boat, characteristic that increase even more the importance of this project. Through a flexible layout system, it is possible to propose a double version, with four or five cabins, without altering the structure in the passage from one to another. This aspect is fundamental for a yacht of this dimension and demonstrates the attention not only to design issues, but also to their effect on the production.”, concludes the Roman yacht designer.
