The event will be staged in Europe
Among the many reasons for this is the fact that the event will be staged in Europe, for the first time in Barcelona, and there’s an extensive field of seasoned entrants. All the ingredients for a unique spectacle are in place, thanks to the presence of the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli Team.
The Italian team is already following an intensive training regime. While waiting for a sight of the AC75 at work – the yacht will fly the Italian colours during the 37th edition of the America’s Cup – it’s down to the AC40 and the Luna Rossa prototype to hold everyone’s attention.
Panerai partnership with Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli Team
As is now traditional, the Italian yacht will be supported by Panerai, which has renewed its partnership with the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli Team. “Our collaboration is the ideal union of two brands that share a spirit of innovation, a passion for excellence and a love for the sea”, says Jean-Marc Pontroué, CEO of the Florentine company.
Max Sirena, team director and skipper of Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli, echoes Pontroué’s sentiments, saying “These timepieces embody the heritage shared by Panerai and the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli team. With their unmistakable design and cutting-edge functionality, they will be indispensable companions during our voyage towards success in the 37th America’s Cup”.
Five new models
The start of the journey is marked by five new models, three in the Luminor collection and two in the Luminor Due family. The Luminor Luna Rossa Quaranta PAM01408 features a 40mm black steel case with DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) treatment on the blue dial with date at 3 o’clock and small seconds at 9. The Luminor Luna Rossa Quaranta BiTempo PAM01404 is powered by a calibre P.900/GMT with three-day power reserve.
With two time zones, the tip of the GMT hand is finished in red in homage to the colour of the Italian yacht’s sails. There is also a limited edition of 37 examples, the Luminor Luna Rossa Chrono Carbotech PAM01519 with a 44mm Carbotech case and blue satinised sunray finish dial with tachymetric scale to measure the yacht’s average speed over a defined distance. Finally, the two models in the Luna Rossa Luminor Due collection both have a white dial and are available in two case sizes, 38 and 42mm.
